The Story County Genealogical Society, a charter chapter of the Iowa Genealogical Society, was formed in 1968.

We meet the second Monday  (except June, July, August, and December) at 6:30 p.m. ,
in the Farwell T.  Brown Auditorium, Ames Public Library, 515 Douglas Ave., Ames, Iowa.

SCGS, along with the Ames Public Library is pleased to announce a one day conference featuring Alice Hoyt Veen, CG, as the presenter.  Mark your calendar for Saturday, April 29, 2017 for "Genealogy Basics: Fundamentals for Family Historians."  This conference is FREE with an option to purchase a catered box lunch.  PREREGISTRATION REQUIRED.

SCGS is partnering with the Ames Public Library to offer a four part genealogy basics class beginning February 9, 2017.  More details.    There is no charge for this class.

Can you help us? Our historian is trying to find some missing back issues of our newsletter, SCGS News. 
We are missing:  v. 6, no. 4 (April 1973); v. 15, no. 2 (Feb. 1982); v. 15, no. 4 (April 1982);  v. 16, no. 1 (Jan. 1983).
                       

Membership is open to all persons interested in genealogical, biographical, and historical research.  
Interested in becoming a member? Membership information and form.   Dues are $10 for an individual and $15 for a family.  Membership year runs from January through December. 

You do not need to be researching ancestors in Story County, Iowa, to join SCGS.  Most of our members do not have local ancestors!  We're a group of people who enjoy genealogy, the thrill of the ancestral chase, learning new ways of researching, and sharing our discoveries with kindred genealogists.  We are a blend of beginners, intermediate, and seasoned researchers.  We love to "talk genealogy" and may be able to assist you in your research.  Come join us.  Our meetings are open to the public and guests are welcome.
